FAQ – Scars after a Motor Vehicle Accident Orlando, FL

Scars after a Motor Vehicle Accident

I was in a motor vehicle accident and had a lot of road rash on my face it looks like there is still something left in the skin making my face look darker. Could that be?
Yes, foreign bodies can remain in the skin after an accident giving a darker appearance. Depending on the depth of the foreign body dermabrasion can be used for its removal and restoration of normal skin texture.
I have a laceration across my forehead the skin is very thin and wide.
A thin wide scar is called atrophic scars. When these scars are revised Botox is used to relax the forehead muscle to improve the outcome of the revision this is followed by laser at 6 weeks to blend the edge of the scar.
I am dark skin I was in an accident and had abdominal surgery. I would like to wear a swim suit again, but my surgical scar is thick and raised.
This sounds like a Hypertrophic scar. There are times when these scars can be flattened with injections of low dose steroids and a drug called 5 FU. Other times the scar can be revised with precision surgery taking the tension off the scar. This followed by non-ablative laser treatments to maximize the results.
I had a broken nose with a cut across my nose from my accident and now my nose seems flat.
Dr. Spence and Dr. Ovalle repair many traumatic nose injuries at IKASC. The nasal tip may have been crushed from the accident as well as the septum. Over time support is lost and the nose sinks in. This can be repaired by reconstructing the cartilage frame work and revising the scar.
My lip split from hitting the steering wheel during my accident, it’s been a year and a half and I still have a wide scar.
Revising lip scars require meticulous technique especially after trauma. All the lip structures must be incorporated in the repair. When tissue is lost fat grafting is carried out to enhance the results.
